• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Boycott Starforce Website said:

Introduction

A lot of PC gamers have joined together, and decided not to purchase any PC games that use the Starforce copy protection method. This site is here to provide information about the Starforce protection method, so that you can make your own informed decision.

I will provide a list of games that install the Starforce device drivers, as well as a list of publishers that incorporate Starforce. If you wish to join this boycott, we encourage you to write the publisher, or post on their forum, and let them know.

This site tries to continue the work of R.I.P. boycottstarforce.org, we have no clue why it went down.

What is Starforce?
Starforce is a software copy protection tool installed by PC game publishers, which is designed to prevent the casual copying of retail CDROM applications. It installs as a hidden device driver, without the end-user's knowledge or consent.

Why are we boycotting it?
Starforce has received criticism for installing its own device driver onto computers. The Starforce drivers are often linked to system instability and computer crashes. If these problems occur, the end-user would be unware as to the cause of the problem, and would be helpless to solve the problem.

I myself support this and refuse to buy or play any games that use Starforce.

If you want to know more, including examples of what Starforce does and what games Starforce is in go to the Boycott Starforce site at http://www.glop.org/starforce/

As do I also support this boycott.

To become so fearful of piracy, that you have to attack your legitimate customers computers is absurd.

Two points

1.Is like to said like the pirate/cracker can't destroy the programm so at least the pourpose of this is useless because at the end finish damaging to the user wo buy that CD's.
2.I can't understand how a software can introduce to the PC so easy!!

I support this but anyway I have no PC

Wow, Never thought that I would see one of the Games I just Bought online on a List of bad software, but there it is "Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter " giid thing I say this thread before I installed the game on my computer. I work at a store that Sells Computers and will be adding a copy of the Link to the Computer information package.

So I to will be joing this boycott, with reading the site I now know why my mothers CD-RW noloner works she is playing one of the games listed on the list and before I install the new Burnner I will need to get this softwere off her PC.

Yep. Some would be good games are embeded with the software. What a shame.

At least no C & C, Star Trek, or Star Wars titles to date are infected.

Wow, sorry to necro post - but I just saw this...

So basically, the guy from Starforce is saying that we add the protection software to slow down the cracking process, thus generating peak sales for new titles for a longer period; then once the game drops out of the top ten list or whatever, we advise the publisher to release a patch to remove the protection to make the gaming experience more comfortable...

That is just disgusting - they ensure that the game isnt as fun / safe / stable as it could be, so that the publishers get a bigger profit from any given title, of which Starforce gets a nice big slice, then after the game is no longer as desireable, they advise the removal of the to improve the game experience and the game performance...

Capitalism, you gotta love it
