Hey everyone.

Decided to make make a standard thread for all of my bits and pieces. Criticism, comment, everything and everyone is welcome :).

One thing to note is that I've upgraded from Max 8 to Max 2012. It runs a lot better, but the generations in between introduced a lot of refinements and changes that I still need to get used to. All good fun

First thing to show is this:

My take on the Constitution. The primary hull - apart from the impulse engines and bridge structure - is identical. The neck is a bit thinner, and you may notice the addition of a torpedo launcher. The secondary hull is similar, but the changes are enough to give it character. It's not really visible, but the dish sticks out slightly.

The nacelles had the most changes, and some of you may notice the similarities with the NX. I wanted this to feel like it was actually an evolution of the design.

This is also, I should add, one of the highest poly meshes I have ever done. It's over ten thousand!

That's a really nice looking mesh. Without a pic of the original, its hard to say what has changed exactly, but it seems a lot more pleasing to the eye :) My only real concern with the original has been the nacelle pylons.. perhaps that's still in the works with this mesh? ;)

Congrats on the upgrade. For me the change has been from Max 5 to 2012... took me a while to get used to the new material editor. Haven't yet figured out why its better than the old material editor. Heheh

Thanks :). The pylons were a bit of an issue for me as well. The ones on the original Constitution look so flimsy, but are such an integral part of the design that changing them too much didn't look right. I'm still tinkering though, and hope that I have a better idea.

Wow, that's quite a jump. I'd imagine that there are a fair few things that were introduced between the two, not just altered.

First thing I did was change the material editor back . The new one is just far too complicated. I've no doubt that artists and animators like the extra control it offers, and it's probably easier to move around a lot of different materials and maps but to be honest all I use it for is assigning either a texture or ambient occlusion map.

Welcome to the dark side... mwhaha

Liking what I see. Overall maintaining the clean lines of the original Connie, yet bringing her a bit more up to date.
Only thing I'm slightly put off by is the rather bulbous look of the secondary hull, where you've filled in the cutout section.

Thanks, that's what I was trying to do :). As for the bulb, that - and the pylons - are pretty much just place holders until I have a better idea. To be fair, certain angles make it look quite flattering - but it never really fits in.

Couple of friends for the Constitution...

Thanks guys :).

Finally got around to rebuilding the secondary hull and nacelle struts. The new shape is a lot closer to the old shape and doesn't have that tacked on bulb that I was never overly fond of. The struts are heavily inspired by/pilfered from the refit .

Hello:
The meshes look very nice, I love that Constitution class, and even though it looks very high poly for Armada games I can still imagine it flying around in games like Bridge Commander.

Keep it up! .
