Hello everyone :D,

I have been playing FO as of late, and have been really enjoying playing as the Borg, but haven't really enjoyed the way the race plays. building this and that, and constructing ships from a 'station' (dont get me wrong, I love the way that part works) and then deploying. it just doesnt feel 'Borg' to me.

My question is this, I know that we can do modular stations in FO, but can we put a shipyard on that modular station and then have it build the construction rig that constructs ships? And if so, will it act like it is suppose to?

I believe the answer is yes, the Klingon Shipyard is a modular station that builds new yard sections. Just copy it's odfs. Then you just add the construction rig to the build list and then give it the ships in the build list instead of stations.

I believe that's what you're after?

That sounds exactly what I'm after. Now is the rig considered a ship or a station? And would that matter? It has been a good deal of time since I have modded A2, so I am a little foggy on the details.

I believe the constructionrig classlabel is considered a craft, though it's possible to make it read as a station with some FO commands.

I'm not exactly filled in on every single detail, but I think you'll really like the Borg Redo that the FO devs have been working on this past year. The new build style will be much different then how it is currently. :excited:

It would be considered a ship, basically you want the rig to build ships rather than stations, well the Dominion Rig can build the HSA which is a ship, so if that's what you're after then you won't have any issues. You can even do that in stock I used to sometimes.

As I recall there are 2 rigs, one for stations which is the construction ships and another for ships which is the yards and SBs

Craft is the parent classlabel for all of these Gameobjects (aside from terrainobjects) - whether an object counts as a 'vessel' or a 'station' is dependent on your choice of base Gameobject commands, and not the classlabel :)

I'd strongly suggest perusing this section of the guide, GameObject - The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations, and then feel free to ask any questions here if you are confused :)

Ok, so i have done alot of this in my own mods and I will let you on some of my own ideas.

It can be done, and you can make ships repair from the station, and do alot of things people say you can not. You can build a station on a station on a station, but you can only build ships from shipyards. So, use the research station label, but build shipyards when you want to build ships. If you want to repair, you have to use the avoideme = 0 line so they can get close or use the addon folder.

Also you build a ship from a research station it becomes stuck to the station. I don't know if it can fire or not.

You can do all sorts of cool stuff with the modular building, but here's the main problem. As far As I can tell, anything involving modular building causes OOS. So anything you want to do, can probably be done, it just won't work in muptiplayer. I could be wrong, but that is what happens for me.

Sorry, that all^^ is kinda confusing too. To answer your actual question, just have a research station build a shipyard as its pod, and that "pod" can build ships.

Craft built from researchstations can fire for sure :)

Modular building is used in FO and Sigma as far as I know with no OOS... sooo...
