:Blows dust off of cover:

Ladies and Gentlemen. What you are about to see has been deemed classified. You are here because you have top security clearance. The NX project has been a resounding success. The Enterprise has already made a name for herself and her sister ships are beginning their own legacy. With the advancement of the Warp 7 project, more systems are within our reach. What we need now is a ship that can stay away from Earth for a number of years. We need vessels that can travel to worlds beyond our borders with minimal need to station. Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to introduce to you the NXC (National eXperimental Cruiser) project.

It was actually your work that inspired me to do so. I had the idea for this ship swimming around in my head for months now. I am not 100% happy with the secondary hull. I may make some changes.

For a little size comparison.
The primary hull is the same size as the NX. The nacelles are a little larger due to the added mass of the secondary. The shuttle bay has been moved to the underside of the secondary. There are two dorsal phase cannons (at the same areas as the phaser banks on the Constitution). There is an experimental phaser bank on the ventral side of the primary. Also the forward torpedo banks are at the same location as the NX.

This looks very promising, indeed. Nice to the ENT era getting some love.

I am glad I inspired you, I don't think I have ever done that before. :lol2:

Personally if I was making the model and going to re-design the lower hull I would make it more like the NX-Refit secondary hull and try to not make it too much like the Constitution's one.

I am interested to see what this will turn out like. I'll be watching this thread.

That is a good idea. When this design first came to me, I was thinking along the lines of Gabe Kroener's Enterprise secondary. Maybe something between the NX refit and GK's.

Considering there is what 80 years roughly between the launch of your ship and of the USS Constitution herself in the 2240's I think there is plenty of time for the evolution of the Constitution's secondary hull.

So I agree, a blend of the two would be a nice idea, even a small deflector dish on the front of the secondary hull would be a nice touch.

Liberty Class? Explorer Class? I could add some more if those two aren't right for you.

Many sources name the Republic as a forrunner of the Constitution. The Constelation was suppose to be a refited Republic class cruiser

Thank you all for the positive feedback. If anyone wants to take a crack at textures, let me know. I do not have a lot of time to do too much so there is no telling how long it would take for me to do them.

A very nice transitional design. As to textures, may I suggest using some of the excellent ENT era ship textures already available?

- They are already done.
- All of them are very high quality.
- They'll only need to be mapped to the mesh rather than made from scratch.
- Features from one can be copy/pasted to another if so desired to come up with something unique and special for your mesh.
- This is a transitional design is it not? So one could start with the ENT era skins and then do another ship with a TOS skin and a third with something somewhere inbetween.

Making the textures from scratch are actually easier than trying to map existing ones on a model. For many years I did that and it was far more difficult than making them.
However if that's all you can do, or time is a factor or whatever and you're not to worry about textures matching up, I say go for it.

Hey yall. I did a little tinkering today and whipped up a new project. Here is a TOS predecessor to the Centaur Class Starship.

You're modelling again?

A great start, she reminds me a little of the Detroyat class.

I don't know if I would go so far as saying I am modelling again......more tinkering than anything. :p

Hello:
It is indeed well done, specially because we can truly see that ship fitting more than nicely as a design for that era, making a great addition.

Awesome.

Doing a little more tinkering. As pretty much all of my former projects have gone the way of planet Genesis due to a hard drive crash, I have to start everything from scratch.
Here is a take on a TOS themed construction ship. If there is anyone that wants to take a crack at getting any of my models I do have game ready, let me know.

Definitely looks straightforward enough for the era. I can see some Oberth influences here and there.

Funny you should mention the Oberth. This had actually started out as an idea I had for an Oberth predecessor. While working on that model, this idea popped into my head and I went with it. I am going to go back to my Oberth predecessor next.

In the year 2155 during the beginning days of the Earth Romulan War, the civilian freighter Kobayashi Maru was attacked and disabled by Romulan forces. They then lay in wait as the captain of the Maru sent out a distress signal. The Earth starship Enterprise, under command of Captain Johnathan Archer, responded. As the Enterprise attempted to render aid, the Romulans sprung their trap. De-cloaking from their hiding spot, three warbirds attacked the Enterprise. Captain Archer and the crew of the Enterprise did all they could to save the crew of the Maru but, in the end, Captain Archer made the difficult decision to leave her adrift. The Romulans then destroyed the Maru with all hands. 100 years later the Starfleet Corps of Engineers have assumed all official fleet transportation duties. They have already launched the Ptolemy Class freighters to ferry most goods to their destinations. Now, in honor of the crew of the Kobayashi Maru, the Admiralty and SCE are proud to introduce the Maru Class freighter. This freighter is designed to not only ferry volatile substances such as deuterium, but to mine dilithium and other materials for refining stations.

The story presented was partially taken from the Star Trek: Enterprise book Kobayashi Maru. I loved the Romulan War books with the exception of one thing: the Romulan remote highjack system. It does make an attempt as to why the technology on the NX seems more advanced than the Constitution but, seems a bit lazy to me. So, for the purpose of this write up, I chose to ignore it.
