No wonder my PC was starting to lag a little - my workspace is a little cluttered. 110k polies scattered about the screen.

Looking magnificent , can't wait for it to come out, that is what we players with high end computers need high poly ships

A significant amount of work done this weekend. Rebuilt the saucer and mapped pretty much everything except the nacelles which are only partially done. I'm particularly pleased with the deflector rebuild. And yes, I know it's a controversial move but I've gone with rounded windows

Jose, if I were to export this as a .obj file I'd estimate it'd come out at 150k polygons. That's not going into A2 and I think it'd push Bridge Commander (not that I know how to do that). For certain I wouldn't be able to open it in MS3D so there'd be no .sod conversion. The KJprise is purely a beauty shot ship built because every modeller has to build an Enterprise at some point.

As for the Envoy, that's a different matter. I could probably do an A2 version if there were sufficient interest (but not immediately).

I think after this one I'm going to need to take a break - I'm getting obsessed.

And the mains are online.

If anybody has any suggestions for tweaks, now is the time.

I still have to fix the neck grid buts that should be straightforward. Not sure whether to change the bow glows as there's some debate as to if they are windows or secondary deflectors or something else. For now they have the same window texture. I also need to add in the lower saucer triangles, although I'm not sure I want to...

After all that, it's on to the bump maps.

I think I've just got the bump maps to do now. Nearly done :D
I'm so glad I didn't try to do this earlier, I wouldn't have been able to do anywhere near as nice a job.
Anyway, some comparison pics using Aads Endeavour to showcase the old gal. Maybe a little unfair on Aad in this instance, but you all know he does good work.

I love the redesign. Very nice. One of my favourites as you've kept faithful to the original with just enough modernisation to make it feel right. Excellent work on this.

No offence taken. It is nice to see that my models are used your work. I do something simular with my Dreadnought Class, which is inspired by the excalibur.

It is relatively straightforward to change registries as they are done on a separate texture.

She's a real stunner mate. Honest I would of loved to see this as a refit (maybe in a later TOS season) before the TMP refit.

When in doubt, always add lens flares. ;)

Kidding aside, it does look like something out of TOS-R if its any consolation.

The problem is that the ships need to be too close together to fit on screen. If they're spaced at realistic distances then they are far too small to make a decent picture.
My new example, Cavalry, has the Big E coming to the rescue of an Ares class ship. The fighting ships are very close to each other and to the Enterprise, but even so they still look tiny.
Anyway, new picture to entertain the masses.

Jose - I probably won't be officially releasing my Connie publicly, at at around 170k polies in .obj format she's a bit heavier than most here would like. However if anyone would like a copy for private use then drop me a pm.

Does anyone know how to make a good shield effect?

I've tried a variety of ways on that, but my go-to method was using a generic shield texture/s and just placing them on top of the image. I overlay it using the screen blending mode in Photoshop. The brightness, contrast can be varied. And you can add a faint lens flare on top of it to simulate a glow.

Oh, and if I really wanted to "channel" Abrams, there wouldn't be any goddamn shields in the first place.

There are other ways too, like making a 3d shield bubble in Max and overlaying a transparent texture on that, etc. But in the end, it felt like too much work...

That actually really bugged me in both DS9 and the Abrams movies.

Thanks Jetfreak, I'll have a play.
And whilst we're talking about no shields...
I love my ship!
