Well, the cast has been announced and production has begun. Now time for the speculation to begin as well. What are your thoughts on the upcoming movie or any of the announced sequels or spin-offs.

Well, George Lucas isn't writing the dialogue, so that makes me happy. He does some great concept stuff, but I'm still surprised they let him anywhere near the dialogue after Phantom Menace.

Other than that, I assume that the original cast will be taking a back seat to a new set of characters given their ages. Geriatric Han Solo just doesn't sound nearly as fun as Original Trilogy Han Solo. We know they're not going to be adapting any of the books or games, so there are a whole ton of possibilities for plot lines. Confederacy or Imperial remnants, more Sith, problems with the New Republic or New Jedi Order, or something more original could all make for interesting plot lines. I mostly just hope they don't derail characters for the sake of drama like WoW did and continues to do.

I know what you mean. I do have a nagging feeling that perhaps one of the original characters may be meeting his/her end during the first movie. I do not know why I feel that way, I just do.

I heard a rumour (no lack of those at the moment) that the movie may be entitled Order of the Jedi. That to be suggests it will be heavily focused on the New Jedi order and the Solo twins might be a part of the movie.

On a more personal note, I'd love to see Thrawn and the Imperial Remnant as the bad guys.

I do know that they were saying that they plan to use physical models over CGI for the ships to make it look more like the original trilogy. I don't know if that is a good thing or not. Good for nostalgia I suppose. Nothing like a good old 70/80 sci-fi movie.

Well, George Lucas isn't writing the dialogue, so that makes me happy. He does some great concept stuff, but I'm still surprised they let him anywhere near the dialogue after Phantom Menace.

That is funny as I found Episode 1 to be the best of the prequels. I didn't like Episode 2 much, and episode 3 I had mixed feelings about. Most of it I think came from the actor they choose for Anakin.

Yeah, but George's dialogue issues were already showing. Jar-Jar and Anakin, for instance, only had lines that were questionable at best (though Jar-Jar's inclusion was questionable at best, tbh).

Using studio models for the ships will certainly make the new movies stand out from other modern films. The actors may also blend in better against backgrounds with model ships. Most modern sci-fi films seem to use huge amounts of digital editing to make the actors blend in with the CGI rather than the other way around and while it's pretty, it can be odd enough to break immersion. Either way, if ILM is still doing the visuals then it's probably going to look good. I can't imagine why ILM wouldn't be on board. They're part of the original Star Wars gang, they still make studio models (primarily for reference, but still), and they're still the leaders in visual effects.

As an aside, I almost typed Star Warg at one point. Made me think of what LotR in space might look like.

Jar-Jar's inclusion was a travesty at best

George Lucas built a good sandbox but he just could not play in it

Jar-Jar, most annoying character ever on Star Wars. He basically paved the way for the Empire in episode 2. Who in their right mind would make him a politician, though considering the politician's we have these days, he doesn't standout that much from the rest of them. :lol2:

It will be interesting if they follow this route. To me the story needs to be on par with the original trilogy to make me call it a success. They upset a lot of fans by basically wiping out 30 years of expanded universe stories. I suppose it would have always been an issue with a sequel trilogy but adapting say the Thrawn trilogy and vaguely sticking to the story, which some surprises and twists to keep those familiar with the books interested could have still been an interesting concept. I guess 2015 will be the year to see what comes of all of this. On a more positive note, Star Wars Battlefront 3 will be released at roughly the same time, being a fan of the older ones and hearing they plan to mix things up a bit and being made by the Battlefield developers makes he hopeful that we might get a good Star Wars game. The news of LucusArts closure was a bit of a hit to the Star Wars community, especially the gamers.

Thanks for posting this up, I saved the images incase they are pulled, but once something like this hits the net it's usually impossible to get rid of it.

Sure looks to be the Falcon, I'd be surprised if it turned out to be anything else. The X-wing looking ship could be a Z-95, the predecessor to the X-wing, Solo's daughter was known to fly one in the expanded universe. It could also equally be a X-wing successor.

They have also added two females actors to the cast. One of which is the woman who portrays Breanne on Game of Thrones.

It looks like some set photos from a Tatooine-esqe location have been leaked. Don't know if Disney will ordered them pulled down or not, but until they do, here's a link to them on TMZ.

http://www.tmz.com/2014/06/02/star-wars-episode-7-set-photos-secret-pics-new-creature/

Looks like they've got a lot of stuff being done with physical models instead of green screen, which I'm excited about!

That's a cute critter, in a horribly ugly way.

I'm pretty happy with the visuals so far. I think the huge models will help to create a 'classic' feel.

It hadn't been posted yet but Harrison Ford was injured on the set. Injured one of his hand.

That's pretty much his usual MO, really. He starts something, then hands it off to somebody else and takes more of a management role rather than directing.

People can debate whether what JJ did to Star Trek was any good or not but, I think JJ is a good fit for Star Wars.

An update for Episode - not VII - but VIII! Looks like JJ is only sticking around for one movie.

Thanks for the update mate.

Yeah that seems to be his norm.

I agree, Trek fans are different to Wars fans. I think he is a great fit to restart the Star Wars saga moving forward. :D

Seems interesting. I wonder who Mr. Trisaber is (other than the villain). I also really like the shot of the Falcon at Tatooine.

Thanks for posting this Hellkite, interesting, I am looking forward to this movie. More than the prequels. Lets hope it has good acting and good writing. :D

I also really like the shot of the Falcon at Tatooine.

I liked how it has a new dish, indicating that it didn't get a new YT-1300 dish but was a bush mechanic job salvaging something else.

Knowing Han, he probably either bought the cheapest dish he could find, or the best one.

That's if the Falcon still belongs to him, I have a feeling that the stars of Episode 7 will be his kids.

Yeah, but the dish was likely replaced almost immediately after ROTJ, which was a while before any kids he may have had could pilot it.

Lol, yes. One of the more well armed ones, too.

Loved the new shots! I have a feeling that the Falcon was a physical model enhanced with CGI. :)

OMG cant stop watching it. ....Almost as excited as I was as a 4 year old waiting to see the original in 1977.
Nothing looked cheap and overly cgi thank god. Stormtroopers actually looked real for once, and wow at new helmets and Blaster rifles. Loved the broadsword Lightsaber too, and I'm just goose bumps all over when the Falcon flies in at the end........... I'm a kid again :excited:
