After a long hiatus I finally finished the modeling on this bad boy.

Enjoy.

Great to see you back RJB, and great to see some more work on this design. One of my favourites, being the B5 nut I am. :lol2:

If I don't jump right into texturing I think I'll give a few near future designs a go.

Wow, that is stunning. Never got into B5, but that looks great. Kind of, sort of reminds me of the Roger Young

It's based on the older Hyperion ship class but modernized with the technologies that went into the new Warlock class destroyer.

You've really done yourself a dis-service. It's my favourite sci-fi series. The one series that had an established outline before it went to air. So things that happen (such as visions) in season 1 came to be in seasons 3 and 4. I'd highly recommend if you get the opportunity to watch the series run.

I'm going to agree with Maj on both counts...

1. Rifraf - watch Babylon 5!!! Everything you need to learn about life you can learn from B5, I just wish I could remember who said that. It is one of the most epic storylines you will ever come across. Stick with the first season, it may seem like hard work at first (a close friend has had my 1st season box set for two years and still hasnt managed it :( ) but after the first dozen episodes or so the series really gets going.

2. RJB - good to see you back. Nice work on the... she needs a name! Anyways, you sir serve as an inspiration to me, so I'm very glad you're back :worship:

Yes, B5 is a fantastic show and the pre-planned five year arc was well done. In particular, how visions, prophecies, and time travel remain consistent despite several actors leaving or joining the show. If you watch it, don't forget to start with the pilot movie The Gathering. I do agree with kjc, though, season one could be weak.

Nice work on the... she needs a name!

Helios, perhaps?

I have seen parts of some episodes when it was on, but just never got into it on a regular basis. I may have to see if I can find it cheap or second hand or something. It's not that I don't care for it or anything, just never started into it. May have to correct that. :)

Absolutely, as others have said, bare with season 1 it really picks up towards the end of the season and season 2, 3 and 4 are really great. I mean most series I can sit down and watch an episode or two but Babylon 5 I can sit down and watch a whole season easy.

In fact when I get YY finished and if I still have the bug my next project will probably be a Babylon 5 one.

I like it! Is it a Trek ship or an original setting? Kind of hard to tell from the shape.

Looks like it would fit in the Stargate universe very well.

It's original but does have a trek influence.

It's a new year and I figured it was time to do some rendering with an over all goal of making some new models over the course of this year.

Hope you all enjoy this first step back into the world of 3d design for me.

Lovely work as always.
Where do you get the backgrounds form? Or do you make those as well?

The backgrounds are just stock images from NASA. The last one I did a little modifications to just so it fit the scene I wanted to create better.

Good luck with that. I once started an MSD and it took soooo much time I moved on to other things.

I don' think it will be too bad for this one. There will only be 7 decks and I'm going to make a detail archive as I go to speed things up.

Hello:
As I told you in DA, it is superb job you are doing and, again, very useful for stories and/or Stargate RPGs  .

I love the ship and you've done a great job with the lighting on the renders.
How did you make the jump gates? Are they painted in afterwards or are they rendered objects, something about them looks a little off to me, I'm no sure why.
I'm not a big fan of the jump attack image. Aside from the jump points the space background is very black and featureless, I know in the Lost Tales they used black backgrounds in the Warlock battle, but other than that B5 used a lot of colour in the background. It's not helped by all the "clutter" being in the left side of the image and nothing being in the foreground.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work you've done, and it's always great to see you pump out more images, it's just not appealing to my sense of aesthetics (the picture that is, I like the ship).

I was actually planning to try something like this for my Whitestar attack image, but the foreground vs background thing is why I swapped to the rear view coming out of the jump point.

Yes the jumpoint is an object.

I'll admit this one got a bit rushed since I ended up with some other things I had to get done last minute. I would have loved to add something like a nebula off toward the other side but I still have a lot of my background models stored away and have not pulled everything out yet.

Input is always welcome.

You know, these posts remind me that I wish they had shown a jump point from the back at least once. We only ever see them from the front, and usually at an acute angle. What is the actual geometry? Is it a three dimensional vortex or is it a two dimensional hole connecting two different three dimensional regions? If the latter, what does it look like from behind? I suppose the jumpgate design implies a three dimensional shape, but we don't really know.

I think in the movie call to arms they did have a side view jump point exit which did show it as a elongated vortex. I'd have to watch the movie again to be sure.

Adding another scene to my Babylon 5 run.
