Despite there being three new films.
Ive always liked and always will like the Y-Wing, Ive played plenty of Star Wars games to know - yes its slow, yes its not as manoverable as an X-Wing but it can take a pounding and it just looks so cool to me.
What do you all think?

As far as the Rebel Alliance goes , yeah I'd say the Y-Wing. I bought three Action Fleet Y-Wings from Galoob and painted one of them up Green/Gold as my personal fighter for when I played with my toys.

Empire: TIE Scout . Though it really came from EU , I just liked the idea of the little bugger being a space-aged Spy Plane.

Republic: V-Wing . No reason.

Trade Federation/CIS: Vulture-class Droid Starfighter.

Jedi Civil War: G-Wing

Hmm... My favorite fighter is probably going to be the XJ3 X-Wing from the NJO, I also found the TIE Defenders and Scimitar Assault Bombers to be pretty awesome craft as well, even for the Imperials ;)

Yeah , the Scimitar AB was quite bad to the bone. But one I just thought of that I always liked was the Aethersprite Jedi Starfighter.

StealthX. Has bad to the bone written all over it. The bad guys will blink once and never know what killed them.

'Course, my favorite non-SW would be the F-302. Other favorite SW fighter is not a fighter. LAAT/i Gunship all the way!

isn't the Stealth X just a varient of the XJ3 lol?

needless to say, I'd just go for any of the X-Wing type craft, new or old. although as awesome as the Stealth X is, its not practical if your not a Jedi :(

Indeed, that's why I said the XJ3's :p I like being able to use all 9 proton torpedoes. :)

Definately the Tie Defender. That thing just looks soo cool. and 3 lasers and 3 ion cannons makes it the best multi purpose superiority fighter I've ever had the pleasure to fly.

For me it's gotta be the faster ones... so the A-Wing or TIE Interceptor all the way! =D

Second that vote for A-Wing here. If you gotta fly, do it fast, and do it with shields over yer butt!

Would rather be flyin' a Starfury though. :D

Although as X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter/ X-Wing Alliance showed, the shields on an A-Wing were at best a token measure :p

Personally, I prefered the Assault Gunboat over them all. Faster than Y-Wing and more manuverable with the same armament, and one of the few shielded Imperial Craft.

B-Wing for the rebs lol just the idea of seeing the fighter rotate around you is funny but i realy loved the idea of the 'Uglies' lol so darn funny and completely a waste of time... oh and A-wing is defenantly my second faverite reb fighter.

faverite bomber will be um the tie bomber cos it looks mean lol.

TIE Bombers are like real word WWII CAS Aircraft. Great when there is no opposition around, little more than targets when there are. Personally, taking a light, manuverable TIE Fighter, designed with the idea of "speed is armour" and then slowing it down, weighting it down and giving it no appreciable defensive increase gives your average TIE Bomber crew the same life expectancy of a IL-2 gunner.

A-Wings, well, better I suppose but I don't see the point of shielding if there isn't enough to actually make a squat of difference. Surely the tempermental and cramped shield generators could be omitted, the ship would be less of a repair headache, and the extra power could be used to make the A-Wing even more of a hotrod. After all, its designed for Recce and as an Interceptor, not heavy attacks, so it needs speed not shields that are ineffective anyway.

As I said, Assault Gunboat all the way. Failing that a Missle Boat, but I dislike having only one gun. Strip out the missiles, give me a crap load of laser cannons and ion cannons (Quad Laser + Turret , Quad Ions) and make it a Gunboat and i'd love it. The Skipray is close but its too corvette-eee for me, trades too much speed for firepower.

None of which helps when your behind gets blasted off by a Stealth X

This is true, but considering this Stealth-X thing is NJO type era right? Well the Assault Gunboat and Missile Boat are both TESB era ships, so they are going to be outclassed.

and, needless to say, they are both strike craft, not dogfighters :)

well yes, there is that lol.
However:

that said Daala manages quite well with a whole bunch of old republic era ships against the Jacen Solo and the GA ships under his command...

The shields were useful in X-Wing and X-Wing Alliance, I found, just as a 'holy hell what was THAT?' preventer. It kept the lesser fighters like the TIE Fighters and Interceptors from scoring lucky hits on your systems. Obviously of little use against cap-ships, but as you pointed out, you're not going to screaming in against something that big in an A-Wing anyway.

Unless you're Arvel Crynyd, anyway. :D

They were in that game??

oh wait, yes.... they were the cannon fodder for my x-wing...
lol, yeah, they were. I'd love it if they'd do a newer version of the games, with stuff from the NJO and LOTF...

that'd be sweet, but it'll never happen. rumours still abound about KoToR 3 though... lets hope:D

i prefered the a-wing. nothing beats the time tested delta shape. may i point out star destroyers and super star destroyers?

and for the empire, tie interceptor.

the defender was a need upgrade, but looked like a giant eyeball.

I'm a fan of the ARC-170 fighter. Looks really cool as well. She's the X-wing's predecessor right?

I like the ARC-170 too, kind of like a Star Wars version of the TBF/M Avenger.

Yup, the Arc 170 is the X-Wing predecessor, just like the Delta-7 Aethersprite is the the A-Wing predecessor. :)
